Dental bone grafting, done here

When the jawbone has thinned, a graft rebuilds it so an implant has something to hold. Dr. Chon does the grafting here, in the same office that places and restores the implant.

At In Line Dentistry in Diamond Bar, Dr. James Chon, DMD, performs dental bone grafting in-house. A graft preserves the socket after an extraction or rebuilds the ridge where the jawbone has shrunk, so an implant can be placed. The free consultation includes a 3D scan, and any graft is itemized in writing there before treatment begins.

Where grafting comes in

Two kinds of graft, one goal

A graft has one job here: making sure there is enough bone for an implant to hold firm. The 3D scan shows which kind of graft a case needs, or whether it needs one at all.

Socket preservation

Placed at the same visit a tooth comes out. Graft material fills the empty socket so the bone keeps its shape while it heals, ready for an implant later.

Ridge grafting

When a tooth has been missing for a while, the jawbone there often shrinks. A ridge graft rebuilds the width or height an implant needs.

Measured on a 3D scan

The cone-beam scan at the free consultation measures the bone where the implant would sit, before any plan is made.

The process

Graft, heal, then the implant

The area is numbed with local anesthetic first. Graft material is placed where the bone is thin, or in the socket of a tooth that has just come out. The area then heals, usually over a few months. Once the bone is ready, Dr. Chon places the implant here and later restores it with an abutment and crown. Nitrous oxide is available for anxious patients; ask for it when you book.

Who does it

Graft to crown, one dentist

Dr. James Chon is a general dentist. He performs bone grafting himself, in this office, and places and restores the implant that follows. The extraction, the graft, the implant and the crown stay with one dentist, so there is no hand-off between practices. Dr. Chon sees patients Tuesdays, 9 AM to 6 PM, and Thursdays, 10 AM to 7 PM.

The money part

Priced in writing, before it begins

Graft costs depend on where the bone is thin and how much needs rebuilding, so no single number is published. A graft is itemized in writing at the free consultation before treatment begins. The implant price is published: $1,990 per implant — the implant, abutment and crown — when Dr. Chon's exam and 3D scan confirm you're a candidate. If your case needs anything more, you get an itemized written price at your free consultation before anything begins.

Bone graft questions

Bone graft questions, answered

Anything else? Call or text (909) 345-6155.

What is a dental bone graft?

A dental bone graft places graft material where the jawbone is too thin to hold an implant. The area then heals, usually over a few months, until the bone is solid enough for the implant to go in. At In Line Dentistry in Diamond Bar, Dr. Chon does the graft in the same office that places the implant.

When is a bone graft needed for a dental implant?

When there is not enough bone where the implant has to sit. When a tooth has been missing for a while, the jawbone there often shrinks, because no root is stimulating it. Gum disease and old infections can thin it too. The 3D scan at the free consultation measures the bone, so whether a graft is needed is known before anything is planned.

What is socket preservation after a tooth extraction?

It is a graft placed at the same visit a tooth is taken out. Graft material fills the empty socket so the bone there keeps its shape while it heals, which keeps the option of an implant open later. Dr. Chon does both the extraction and the graft here, with no referral out.

How much does a bone graft cost at In Line Dentistry?

There is no published graft price, because the work depends on where the bone is thin and how much of it needs rebuilding. A graft is itemized in writing at the free consultation before treatment begins, on the same written plan as the implant, so the whole cost is known up front. The consultation and its 3D scan review are $0.

Is bone grafting done in-house or referred out?

In-house. Dr. Chon, a general dentist, performs bone grafting himself at the office on Golden Springs Drive in Diamond Bar, and he places and restores the implant that follows. The extraction, the graft, the implant and the crown stay with one dentist in one office.

How long after a bone graft can the implant be placed?

Usually a few months. The graft needs time to heal into solid bone before an implant can hold in it, and Dr. Chon checks the healing at short visits along the way. He maps the full sequence at the consultation, so the order of each step and the written price are clear before anything starts.
