Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about visits, prices, insurance and treatment at In Line Dentistry in Diamond Bar. Every price here is exact; anything without one gets an itemized written price at your exam.
First visit $95 flat, or $0 with an active PPO plan
Your first visit, answered
How much is the first visit?
$95 for your complete first visit: exam, digital X-rays, cleaning and a personal treatment plan. $0 out of pocket with an active PPO plan that covers preventive care at 100%, verified before you come in.
Which days does Dr. Chon see patients?
Dr. Chon sees patients on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The office is open Monday through Saturday for scheduling, billing and questions, so you can call any of those days to book a Tuesday or Thursday visit.
How do I book an appointment?
Book online at inlinedentistry.com/book — pick a Tuesday or Thursday time and we'll text you to confirm it — or call or text the office and the team confirms a time that fits your schedule.
Who is the dentist at In Line Dentistry?
Dr. James Chon, DMD, a general dentist. He completed dental school at the UNLV School of Dental Medicine, is a UCLA alumnus and a member of the ADA, and the practice is rated 5.0 on Google.
Do you see children?
Yes. In Line is a family practice that sees patients of all ages, so the whole family can book in one trip.
Do you offer sedation for nervous patients?
Nitrous oxide is available, and it is the only sedation In Line offers. Mention it when you book and it is arranged before your visit.
Insurance and money, in plain words
Do you take my PPO insurance?
Most PPO plans are welcome. In Line is in-network with Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Delta Dental, Guardian, Humana, MetLife and UnitedHealthcare; with other PPO plans we're out-of-network: you pay at the visit, we file your claim the same day, and your insurer reimburses you, with an estimate from us beforehand.
What if I don't have dental insurance?
Start with the $95 flat new patient visit ($0 out of pocket with an active PPO plan), or join the In Line Member plan: Essential is $449 a year and Complete is $599 a year. The membership is a discount plan, not insurance.
Can I have insurance and the membership?
Yes. Insurance and the In Line Member plan are not mutually exclusive, and because the membership is a discount plan rather than insurance, joining it does not replace your PPO.
What financing options do you offer?
Financing is available on approved credit through CareCredit, Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay, Sunbit, LendingClub, and Proceed Finance. The lender sets the terms; your exact price comes from us in writing first.
Do you publish your prices?
Yes, wherever a fee is fixed: the new patient visit is $95 flat, or $0 with an active PPO plan; an emergency visit is the same $95 flat visit, or $0 out of pocket with an active PPO plan; an implant is $1,990 for candidates; porcelain veneers are priced by tooth count; and membership is $449 or $599 a year. Everything else, from fillings and crowns to extractions and night guards, gets an itemized written price at your exam before anything starts.
Implants, one published price
How much does a dental implant cost?
$1,990 per implant — the implant, abutment and crown — when Dr. Chon's exam and 3D scan confirm you're a candidate. If your case needs anything more, you get an itemized written price at your free consultation before anything begins.
Does Dr. Chon place the implant himself?
Yes. Dr. Chon places and restores implants in-house, with no referral out: the same doctor places the post and fits the abutment and crown.
Am I a candidate for a dental implant?
Most adults with a missing or failing tooth are candidates. What matters is healthy gums and enough jawbone to hold the implant, and both are checked at a free consultation with a 3D scan.
Is implant work covered by a care policy?
Yes. In Line stands behind its implant work with a four-year care policy, kept active with routine six-month maintenance visits.
Veneers and cosmetic, priced up front
How much do veneers cost?
Porcelain veneers are priced per tooth by how many teeth are in your case: $2,000 per tooth for 1–3 teeth, $1,299 for 4–6, $999 for 7–15, and $799 for 16 or more. A 4-veneer case is $5,196.
Are your veneers porcelain?
Yes. In Line places porcelain veneers only, and Dr. Chon confirms how many teeth are involved, and your number, in writing at the consultation.
Veneers, bonding or whitening: which do I need?
Whitening changes color only; bonding repairs a chip or closes a small gap with tooth-colored resin in one visit; veneers change color, shape and alignment together. Most smiles need one of the three, and the cosmetic consultation is where that gets decided.
Clear aligners, both systems
Do you offer Invisalign?
Yes. In Line offers both Invisalign and OrthoFX clear aligners, and Dr. Chon mainly uses OrthoFX. He plans and supervises either system in person.
What is the difference between Invisalign and OrthoFX?
Both are clear, removable aligner systems that move your teeth gradually through a series of custom trays. Which one suits you depends on how your teeth need to move, and Dr. Chon recommends one for your case at the consultation.
How much do clear aligners cost?
There is no single published aligner price, because cases differ in how far the teeth need to move. You get an itemized written price at your exam, before anything starts.
Tooth pain, out of pain first
Can I be seen the same day for a dental emergency?
For a genuine emergency, yes. Call or text the office and tell us what's happening: Dr. Chon treats patients on Tuesdays and Thursdays and comes in on his off days for genuine emergencies.
What does an emergency visit include, and what does it cost?
A focused exam of the problem tooth and the digital X-rays needed to diagnose it, with no insurance needed. Any treatment you decide on is priced in writing before it starts.
Do you do root canals?
Yes. Dr. Chon performs root canals here when the tooth suits it, and refers the more complex cases to an endodontist after the visit — most are referred. Every root canal question starts with an exam: he examines the tooth, gets you out of pain first, and tells you plainly what it needs — you are always seen here first.
Does a root canal hurt?
A root canal is done under local anesthetic, and its purpose is to remove the infected tissue behind the ache. Dr. Chon's first job is getting you out of pain, and nitrous oxide is available if you're anxious.
How much does a root canal cost?
There is no single published root canal price, because it varies by tooth. If the tooth is treated here, you get an itemized written price at your exam; if Dr. Chon refers you to a specialist, he tells you so plainly at the same visit.
Full arch and dentures, consultation first
Do you do full-arch implants (All-on-X)?
Full-arch care starts with a full-arch and denture consultation with Dr. Chon. He examines your mouth, explains snap-on and fixed options, and tells you plainly whether your case is treated here or by a specialist he refers you to.
Do you make dentures or implant-retained dentures?
Dentures and implant-retained dentures start with the same full-arch and denture consultation. Dr. Chon explains the options for your mouth and tells you plainly whether the work is done here or by a specialist he refers you to.
How much do full-arch implants cost?
Full-arch treatment has no published price, because every mouth is different. After the consultation you get an itemized written price if the case is treated here, or a plain answer about the specialist Dr. Chon refers you to if it is not.
