What the $95 covers
In Line Dentistry has one price for a first visit, and an emergency is that visit. For $95 flat, or $0 with an active PPO plan, the emergency exam looks at the tooth that hurts and the digital X-rays show what is underneath it: a crack, decay that has reached the nerve, an abscess, or a piece that has broken off. You leave knowing what is wrong and what fixing it costs, in writing.
There is no emergency fee on top, and no charge for being fitted in the same day. The emergency care page carries the same price, because it is the same visit.
What happens at the visit
- Call or text first. Describe what is happening. The office triages by phone any day it is open and holds time in the schedule for emergencies.
- The exam and X-rays. Dr. Chon examines the tooth and reads the X-rays with you, so the cause is clear before any treatment is discussed.
- Out of pain. Getting the pain under control comes before anything else, and anything done for it at In Line is priced in writing first.
- The written price. Whatever the tooth needs, from a filling to an extraction, is itemized in writing before it starts. The number on the paper is the number you pay.
When it is the ER instead
Go to an emergency room or call 911 for swelling that is spreading across the face or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, or a high fever with facial swelling. Those can be signs of a spreading infection, and they are medical emergencies first. The tooth is handled after. For everything else, a dental office is where the tooth actually gets fixed, and the dental emergency guide covers what to do in the meantime.
What gets priced in writing after the exam
Treatment is not one number, because a tooth that needs a filling and a tooth that needs to come out are different work. In Line publishes no fee for these, and gives an itemized written price at the exam instead.
- A filling or bonding. For a small cavity or chip. Priced per tooth at the exam.
- A crown. For a larger break or a cracked tooth. Priced in writing at the exam; the crown cost guide explains what decides the price.
- An extraction. Done in-house by Dr. Chon, the same day for a genuine emergency, wisdom teeth included. Priced per tooth in writing. See tooth extractions.
- A root canal. Dr. Chon evaluates the tooth here and gets you out of pain; the root canal is done here when the tooth suits it, otherwise by an endodontist he refers you to after the visit. See root canals.
- Replacing a tooth that cannot be saved. A dental implant is $1,990 per implant, the implant, abutment and crown, when Dr. Chon's exam and 3D scan confirm you are a candidate. Anything more gets an itemized written price first. See implant pricing.
Paying for emergency treatment
The visit is $95 flat, or $0 with an active PPO plan. For treatment: In Line is in-network with Aetna Dental, Anthem Blue Cross / Blue Shield, Cigna Dental, Delta Dental (Premier and PPO), Guardian Dental, Humana Dental, MetLife Dental and UnitedHealthcare Dental. With any other PPO plan you pay at the visit, In Line files your claim the same day, and your insurer reimburses you, with an estimate beforehand. Without insurance, the written price is the price. Financing is available on approved credit through CareCredit, Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay, Sunbit, LendingClub and Proceed Finance; the financing guide compares them.
