Dental membership plan vs insurance

Essential ($449/yr) and Complete ($599/yr) are discount plans, not insurance: how they compare, and why having one does not rule out the other.

Membership

What a dental membership plan is

The In Line Member plan is an agreement between you and the practice. You pay one annual fee directly to In Line Dentistry, and in return you get a set of preventive visits included and member pricing on treatment beyond them. It is a discount plan, not insurance: there is no carrier in the middle, so there are no claims to file, no waiting periods before your included cleanings start, no annual maximum and no denials.

There are two tiers, and both are quoted as annual prices:

  • Essential, $449 a year. Two cleanings, two exams with necessary X-rays, a standing member discount on additional treatment, and no activation fee.
  • Complete, $599 a year. Four cleanings a year and 40% off most treatments, along with the rest of the inclusions listed on the membership page.

The membership page sets out every inclusion for both tiers. The member benefits apply at In Line Dentistry.

How dental insurance works at In Line

Dental insurance is a policy you or your employer buys from a carrier. The carrier pays toward covered care according to your plan: its coverage levels, its waiting periods, if it has any, and its annual maximum.

In Line Dentistry is in-network with eight major PPO carriers (listed on the insurance page), and other PPO plans are welcome out-of-network: you pay the practice at your visit, In Line files your claim the same day, and your insurer reimburses you. The office verifies your benefits before you arrive, and you get an estimate beforehand. The guide to out-of-network PPO insurance walks through each step, and the insurance page has the process in one place.

Can you have both?

Yes. Insurance and the In Line Member plan are not mutually exclusive. Joining the membership does not replace your PPO plan, and having a PPO plan does not rule out joining. How each one applies to a given treatment is shown on your written estimate before anything starts, so the question never has to be settled at the chair.

Which one fits you

If you have no dental insurance, the membership is built for you. Self-employed, retired, between jobs, or simply uncovered: one annual fee makes the preventive rhythm predictable, and member pricing applies to treatment beyond it.

If you have a PPO plan, start with your benefits. The new patient visit is $95 flat, or $0 out of pocket with an active PPO plan, and the office checks your plan before you come in. The new patients page explains that visit, and you can ask about the membership at the same appointment.

Either way, the published prices on the pricing page are the cash prices, and anything without a published price gets an itemized written price at your exam. For larger treatment, financing is available on approved credit through CareCredit, Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay, Sunbit, LendingClub and Proceed Finance, with the lender setting the terms. Questions

Membership questions

Is the In Line Member plan dental insurance?

No. It is a discount plan, not insurance. You pay one annual fee directly to In Line Dentistry: $449 a year for Essential or $599 a year for Complete. There are no claims, no waiting periods, no annual maximums and no denials.

Can I have dental insurance and a membership at the same time?

Yes. Insurance and the In Line Member plan are not mutually exclusive. Joining the membership does not replace your PPO plan. How each one applies to a given treatment is shown on your written estimate before anything starts.

What does the Essential plan include?

Essential is $449 a year and includes two cleanings, two exams with necessary X-rays, a standing member discount on additional treatment, and no activation fee. The membership page lists both plans in full.

Is the membership only for people without insurance?

No. It was built for people paying their own way for dental care, such as the self-employed, retirees, and anyone between jobs or without coverage. But a PPO plan does not rule it out: insurance and the In Line Member plan are not mutually exclusive.

How do I join?
